IELTS vs IELTS for UKVI

Post by sudheerk » Mon Jul 01, 2019 5:35 pm

Hi,

I have finished 5 years on Tier2 General visa, planning to apply for settlement in July.

When I got Tier2 Visa in 2014, I submitted my IELTS General training certificate. which was expired in Apr/2016.

For Settelement(in language requiement) Gov.uk(https://www.gov.uk/english-language/app ... ifications) says:

Applying to settle in the UK
You can use a B1 level qualification that’s run out if both of the following are true:

it’s on the current list of recognised tests
it was accepted for another UK immigration application, for example when you got permission to enter

the below pdf does not show IELTS. it says "IELTS for UKVI"

https://assets.publishing.service.gov.u ... 5.2019.pdf

below link says just IELTS (in Tests taken outside the UK)

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/immigration ... uage-tests

I got more than 5.5 in all 4 sections,Can I still use my expired certificate? or Do I have to take fresh test for submitting my application?

thanks for your help

Regards,
SK

As it was accepted before, as long as the test and the test center are on the list you should be fine.
IELTS for UKVI does not apply to tests before 2015 so IELTS tests taken before will be accepted if the test center is still on the list AND such test certificate was accepted before.
Advice is given based on my personal research and experience only. Do NOT contact me via private message for immigration advice

Thanks for asking these. I`m in the same situation. I had IELTS Academic in 2014 and was thinking about taking it again.

Would you be able to post an update about your application please ?

Thanks in advance

If you meet all the conditions that Zimba described, you are ok to use expired IELTS test.

My advice is get a new one it's only £200 or £150 it depends on the type of test you need to take. Don't risk it please.
My certificate is B1 /2014 from British council that is still existing in the list of the approved centre test. The case worker put me in 10 years route spouse of British citizen . Now I can't apply for my ILR in the few coming months as I was short of months for 5 years.
I don't have right to appeal. I don't know what to do.

Can you share the exact wording of the refusal letter?
Did you add the information about the IELTS exam? What was your score in the IELTS exam?
