Audited accounts needed?

I am switching from HSMP to Tier 1 and am director of a limited company.I have seen a few sites mentioning audited accounts, this seems a bit extreme to me as its only a legal requirement once gross sales surpass 5.2 million pounds ! Just needed a clarification as dont want to throw away £750 on an application or £2000 on an accountant to audit me. Thanks in advance
