Citizenship with BRC or citizenship?

Post by Zerubbabel » Tue Jul 23, 2019 3:04 pm

Hello

I am UK/EEA national (got UK citizenship last year).

My wife has permanent residence through EEA route. She got her BRC exactly 1 year ago.

She now qualifies to apply for British citizenship through the 5-year route.

My question is:

- Does she have to first apply for settled status then only for citizenship or can she just ignore the EU scheme and apply now directly for the British Citizenship.

My feeling is that she can go direct to citizenship but I would like to be 100% sure.

If she has PR, then she can apply for citizenship now

Thank you for that. Yes, she has a PR for a year now. So, I am going to start the application process.

I just needed a confirmation :)

She could have applied as soon as she got PR if you were British at that point and there was no need to wait a year.

I didn't know that. I first became British then a few weeks later, she got her PR. She made her application even before I applied for the citizenship my the citizenship got sorted faster.

We shouldn't have waited that long then :) I need just to rush her for the Life in UK test because she hasn't done it yet. Then we will be good to go.

Yes she did that with Trinity college and received a long reference number to use within the citizenship application.

We already started the online application, but we can't progress until she passes her Life in UK test. She is a bit struggling with it to be honest but we found an iPad app that seems good. I remember I prepared mine with similar app.
