Can Visitor to the UK travel within EU for short trips?

Post by gollywood » Wed Jul 09, 2008 2:02 pm

I have a relative coming over from Pakistan in August. On a 6 month visa.

Can I travel within the EU with him for short trips (eg 3 days in France / 2 days in Italy) etc. I'd likle to take him to Paris for a few days

He has a Pakistani passport.

Or do we need to apply for Visa's etc for these countries (from the UK).

Thanks

(This is unrelated to another thread I have created)

For your relative, Schengen visa should be applied, but in Pakistan.

I recently did my Schengen visa thing, with the French Consulate in London.
I noticed that they had posters on all the walls at the Consulate stating that some nationalitys including Pakistan should expect delays of 10 days, before visa's are issued.
The best would be for your relative to apply with the French Consulate in Pakistan.

Siggi, The delay your talking about is for Pakistani nationals who are residents here.

Gollywood, Since your relative will be on a visitor visa in UK he / she will not qualify to get a Schengen visa at the French Emabssy in London.

Hence please ask them to get their Schengen visa from Pakistan.

I did a quick Google search and read that if the visitor was planning on visit a number of Shengen states, it might be possible go to the main country (UK) and get the visa from there.

Any truth in this?

It will be very difficult to get a visa in the UK.

But you do realise that the UK is not a Schengen state? (Your post sort of implies that the UK is in the Schengen area, whereas it's not.)

It would be far easier for your relation to apply for the Schengen visa in Pakistan, especially since the application may not even be considered by the French consulate in the UK since, technically, he or she wouldn't be entitled to apply in the UK.
