Tier1 Query: Master's Degree + Englist Langauge Point

Post by nripen.techie » Tue Jul 08, 2008 7:55 pm

Hi,

I've two queries to clairify regrading applying for Tier1(General) from within UK:

1. I've Master's Degree in Computer Science (2 years in Distance Education Mode) From 'Sikkim Manipal University'. Does my master degree would be considred for English Laguage requirement as my bachelor degree was not tought in English.

2. I've checked in Points-based calculator of UK Border Agency's official site and i'could earn points for both my master's degree (35 points) and 10 points for English which makes total of 90 points. But i'm not sure whether 'Manipal University and Sikkim Manipal Univerity' both are the same education body in india as approved list of universities in PBS has only 'Manipal Univerity'.

Could someone please clarify my doubts or any alternative solutions would be highly appreciated.

Thanks,
The Tech Guy

It isn't clear what you are saying. At one place you say you can claim points for qualification and english, but then you are also saying that approved list in PBS has only "Manipal University" in it.

Sikkim Manipal University is not same as Sikkim University or Manipal University. No university can have 2 names, can they?? BTW, Sikkim-Manipal University of Health, Medical and Technological Sciences, Tadong is listed (in the qualification section, at least). Is this the university which issued you your degree??

And yes, you can claim points for english based on masters degree - provided it is listed in the english language section of the calculator.

extremely sorry about the confusion, i realise it is not clear enough from my mail.

Yes, Sikkim-Manipal University of Health, Medical and Technological Sciences, Tadong is the University from where i did my masters degree. Thanks for your help. it is appearing in the list PBS university list and also earning 10 points for english laguage.

One more doubts to clear: As i did my mastres degree (in Distance Education Mode from Sikkim-Manipal University of Health, Medical and Technological Sciences, Tadong) does it any way matters while clamiming points?

Thanks.

thanks a lot for your response. sorry to keep you guys bothering again.

My scenario is bit different, initially I had enrolled for MCA (i.e. of 6 semester, 3 years) later on i discontinued after successfuly completing first 4 semester (as a part of my plan) , which leads to an exit qualificaton i.e MSc In Computer Science, MScCS (total 4 semester, 2 years). Since all my transcript was issued for MCA and finnaly i got the MScCS degree certificate.. do you think it may trigger confilct??

Please reply.

It really shouldn't matter. However, in doubt, it is always better to get the letter of comparision from NARIC and send the same along with your application. It is not going to cost your much. But you can avoid lots of worries with it.

If in doubt, ask!

Since you have the degree certificate, there is no need for submitting academic transcripts (for either NARIC letter or for Tier 1 application), so there is no reason anyone will get know that you switched courses.

Hi,

Can you please let us know if you have submitted any letter/certificate from college/university to claim english language points?

Letter stating if your degree has been taught in english.

I am not sure if seperate letter from college or university is required or not.

Nitin

After going through guidance & forum I am confused about this. Can you please make this point clear?

Does such certificate require? if yes, where should we get it from? college or university?

Regards,
Nitin

Documents we require to support
applications under the points-based
system
10. The applicant must ensure he/she provides all of
the necessary supporting documents at the time he/
she sends us the application. If the immigration rules
state that specified documents must be provided
, we
will say so in this guidance and we will only accept
those documents
.
....
....
13. The applicant should carefully select the right
evidence to send us. If he/she sends us a lot of
irrelevant or poor-quality documents, it may take
us longer to consider the application. We only need
evidence that is directly relevant to the application, as
set out in this guidance.
We will not consider unrelated
evidence when calculating the points score.
You should only submit those documents stated in guidance notes. I couldn't find a mention of "Letter from university that degree was taught in english" in the guidance notes.

Then what should I provide as an evidance that degree has been taught in English.
