i have the same question. right now the market isnt very good. (not just for vlsi/asic) there are less jobs because of the bad market.
how far have you reached with your visa? if you are planning to resign before finding a job; i would suggest: hang on for some time

i had a look and I put my resume to around 5 companies last week for matching roles. I am yet to get a call ! I am actually surprised that there is no call yet.

I really would like to discuss with you on your progress in searching for ASIC openings in UK.

Actually, I sent my CV to some companies in UK just for knowing the pulse in ASIC, without HSMP. No response at all. Hence, I was wondering whether HSMP is useful. I donot like to sound cynical though.
