Can I also ask the guys who applied in Nov 2005-Jan 2006 to update us if they have heard anything from DOJ recently (assuming they have really started processing the Jan 06 applications....

I've applied in early Dec 2005 and havent heard anything. Seeing Jan 2006 on the justice site... I called them and was on the fone for such a long time that I felt ashamed for showing my desparations. Someone answered my fone he said its now taking 3 years and told me that my app although recieved in Dec is not processed yet, it was an abrupt end to my call.

I'm in IT as well. All set to leave any day. If I leave i'll sell my property soo cheap that the whole property will fall further crashing! I'm getting pissed as the days goes by. This is not a developed country!

Came to realise that it's not even a Semi-developed country long ago ! But having spent such a long time in this Country, one would expect to hear a 'Yes' or 'No' from them in reasonable time.

They certainly can employ a few in DoJ & probably double the processing fee of what 634 euros? that'll fetch about 12 million euros (about 20000 in queue?). We wouldn't complain about the increased processing fee if they process it in less than a year..would we?!

im not at this stage guys but after 2 years of marriage life we thought we should dare to apply in DOJ for long term residency, guess what they have asked me to show them that so called proof that I ever lived in any EEA country. I wonder why my country did not join EU poor economics I suppose. I can feel the pain right in my throat of your guys as I am suffering the same dont't know what will happen now

Good luck CNU. Bring us some good news. It would be heartening for the guys at the end of the queue to know applications are getting approved in 36 months' time ! BTW, for Non-EU applicants, is it mandatory to submit Marriage Affidavit if spouse is also from out of EU? doesn't make sense...

Hi Cnu,

I went through the postings here - They are very informative and thanks for awareness - it looks like some applicants received some sort of letter from immigration asking for more documentation etc. Their applications as far as I could see, were back in Aug 05 - Sept 05. But again, they had to chase up their own applications by phoning them etc. If you applied earlier than Jan 06, there is no harm to ring the INIS or better send a mail and ask for status regarding your application...

First of all thanks for uploading the birth affidavit. Just wondering if anyone has affidavit for marriage?? It would be nice to post both the affidavits to DoJ leaving them with no option to ask for any other document.

Let me reiterate - we need to send the birth and marriage affidavit certificates in advance so that DoJ are left with no option to ask for any additional documentation. I am non-EU with non-EU spouse. Can anyone please post the marriage certificate format (the one at the end of Form 8 is applicable for Irish spouse).

Folks I had applied in Aug 05 and called them recently. After holding for eternity was told very briefly that applications are now taking 3 yrs to process and the line was hung up

NEW LEGISLATION:THE OMBUDSMAN is to be given powers to investigate the treatment of members of the public by the National Treatment Purchase Fund, colleges and universities, the Courts Service and Vocational Education Committees (VECs).

Despite often-repeated calls by the Ombudsman, Emily O'Reilly, the Government has not yielded to her desire to be allowed to investigate the handling of asylum and immigration cases.

Announcing the Ombudsman (Amendment) Bill 2008, the Minister for Finance, Brian Lenihan, said it was an important milestone in the policy of increasing transparency and accountability in public administration.

Besides colleges, universities, VECs and the Courts Service, the Ombudsman will now be able to investigate Fás, the National Roads Authority, Dublin Transportation Office and other State bodies.

Public bodies covered by the Ombudsman will be legally obliged by the new legislation "consistent with its resources" to deal with people fairly and in a timely manner. In addition, the Government will in future be able to expand the scope of the Ombudsman, and allow other bodies to be brought under her remit using regulation rather than the slower method of legislation.

The Ombudsman will also be able to go to the High Court if investigators are denied information. In early 2007, the Ombudsman's powers were extended to inquiring into health boards and hospitals, which led to a significant 14 per cent increase last year in the numbers of cases lodged with her office, Ms O'Reilly said yesterday.

The latest changes will allow her office to investigate complaints made by the public against the administrative actions of public bodies - but not the policies dictated by the Oireachtas - which adversely affect individuals or companies.

Ms O'Reilly said the legislation giving the Ombudsman extra investigative powers had been long-awaited, but very welcome.

However, she said she was concerned by the Government's refusal to allow her officials the right to inquire into the handling of asylum and immigration cases by the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform, the Immigration and Naturalisation Service and other State bodies.

The Immigration, Residence and Protection Bill which proposes radical changes to the asylum system is due to be enacted this year and has been sharply criticised, she said, by the Irish Human Rights Commission, among others.

"As things stand, my office can only be of assistance to people with complaints in relation to issues such as the quality of accommodation for asylum seekers or complaints about delays, whereas I am unable to scrutinise complaints in relation to actions such as decisions to refuse family reunification applications, decisions to refuse leave to remain resident, etcetera," she said.

The reason for me to ask this was, tracking thru the posts I found that you were asked for marriage certificate and not the birth-certificate. Do you mind expanding more on this,if you dont mind please?

If I were you, I would post a letter and explain the situation and ask an update. And at the same time, keep trying to reach someone on the phone... Some people managed to contact someone on the helpline. Keep trying... if you applied back in 2005, you have every right to chase it up...

My case is pretty much the same..Applied for naturalisation in Nov. 2005. Got letter from DoJ asking for birth and marriage cert affidavits in last week of May and I sent it two days later..Haven't heard anything from them since other than the acknowledgement that they received the affidavits I sent.

Strongbow - Do you have a copy of Marriage affidavit? I know there is a format at end of Form 8 but it is only meant for marriage with irish national. I want a generic one that is being sent by DoJ.

Hey, I have applied to be naturalised (after 5 years on work permits) in June 2005. My application has been registered at the end of June 2005 with a reference number 22XX.

At the end of this June I received a letter informing me that my application for naturalisation has been approved.

The next step was to make a declaration at a District court most convenient to me (I am citing the actual letter that came from the Dept of Justice). However the Dublin court could only arrange an appoinment sometime in September. I attempted calling a number of other courts close to Dublin - the ones in Swords, Bray and Naas. Even thought the DOJ letter explicitly lets me choose any court in the country, the courts clerks told me that they had their own "local arrangements" and they would not serve someone from outside of the district.

At the end, 1 week later I went to a smaller town in the west of Ireland and did it there at a local District Court.

Once this was done I had to send my declaration (a special yellow form), my GNIB card, a proof of payment, and a couple of photos back to the GNIB office in Dublin. I am supposed to get my naturalisation certificate sometime within 30 days after that. Once I have the certificate I can apply for an actual passport. For this I will have to send the original naturalisation certificate and my original birth certificate plus certified translation of it to the passport office...

As far as I know, a lot of people (of those who applied after the August 2005) are currently being asked to re-send copies of the latest payslips, P21 and so on.

I sent one (P21) with my original application in 2005. I was not asked to re-send anything. Although as I changed my job sometime last year, I was told by the DOJ (I phoned the DOJ guys to check whether they wanted to be informed about that change) to send some payslips to the citizenship division. I guess this might be the reason why I was not asked to re-submit anything.

I shoudl also mention that I was not asked to send an affidavit for my birth certificate, although some of my copatriots are asked to do this now too.

Forgive my ignorance guys, but what's this P21? I know the P60 & P45 forms alright..

Form P21 is a PAYE Balancing statement. Many people will receive a cheque when this form is requested, unless the tax paid was correct in which case no refund will be due from the Revenue.
