T2G Early application for extension

Post by svasu » Wed Sep 25, 2019 10:19 am

Dear Friends,

My wife's tier 2 general - 3 years visa is due for extension in March 2020.

We have a travel commitment in March 2020 and would appreciate some clarification on the following:

1. Can her company assign a COS for extension sometime in Dec 2019?
2. with the assigned COS - can she apply for an extension in Dec 2019/Jan 2020?
3. Can a dependant visa extension, for our daughter, be applied together with the main applicant?

Look forward to your reply as this will help in finalising our travel plans.

Thanks.

Regards,
Svasu

Yes, yes and yes.

Thought you were looking at switching them to FLR(M) once you got ILR last year??

Hi Char,

I am so glad to hear from you and as always thanks for your swift reply.

Yes, I was exploring the FLR(M) option and then decided against it considering my wife and daughter qualify for ILR in March 2022 via T2G as suppose to much later if they switch to FLR(M).

Will the new (extension) T2G visa start from the date the application is approved i.e. sometime in Dec/Jan or would that be from March 2020?

I guess with an early application - the total duration would reduce to, lets say, 5 years and 10 months instead of 6 years?

Svasu

It will start from date of approval. There is no concept of 'tag onto expiry of last visa'.

Depends how long she has been on tier 2 and what length the next CoS is for.

Come March 2020, she will have been on T2G for 3 years. Assuming the extension CoS is for another 3 years, this would probably take here to 5 years and 10 months on T2G in total...

If her new visa is approved, it will be 3 years from the date of decision if the CoS is for 3 years.
