Child's Citizenship Entitlement

Post by richiesuk » Fri Oct 04, 2019 12:28 pm

Dear All,

could you please tell me if I am able to register my son's birth in UK (aka get citizenship for him)

I am a naturalised British citizen (now a british - hungarian dual) who lives in Hungary now, so british by not Descent.
(moved to UK in 2006 and did my citizenship test in 2012)

according to this online form I can do it:

gov.uk register-a-birth

Which country was the child born in?
Hungary

Who has British nationality?
Father only

Were you married to the other parent when your child was born?
Yes

Where are you now?
In the country where the child was born

thanks a lot,

Regards,

Richard

When was the child born??

If the child was born AFTER you became British, then the child would be British by descent and can apply for a passport directly.

about to be born = soon in 3-4 weeks

according to this
https://www.gov.uk/register-a-birth

so I do not need this at all?

I am confused, so how can my child get the british citizenship then ?

thanks,

Regards

Your child is AUTOMATICALLY British by descent if born to a British parent who is British otherwise than by descent.

You apply for a passport directly.
