change of passport

Post by busya13 » Wed Jul 09, 2008 3:14 pm

hi all! i wonder if anyone can help with my question. i am a spouse of EU citizen. In October i need to apply for FMRS again. I have few pages in my passport left but it is not expiring yet. I think I could last another year with it because there are still clear pages. Because we travel a lot within EU i am afraid that my passport will be full of different stamps if not visas for which i need clear pages as well (how stupid). I am going home next month and was wondering if it is ok to get a new passport? Because it is such a pain to get a passport changed at the embassy and so much faster at home...Would that be ok with the home office? because i guess i would need to send the old passport in with the application anyway. What if they see that the old passport is not finished yet?
thank you in advance

A couple of things to think about.

What if your old passport is lost by your respective country passport issuance office?

Before you leave the UK, go to a solicitor and pay to have every page copied and certified as a true copy. You should have two sets made. One to take with you and one to leave in the UK. You want a set to take with you in case your Country's Government misplace it and you need to get a new entry entry clearance from the British Embassy.

You want to leave one in the UK so you have proof of your arrivals and departures in the UK on your old passport if it is lost.

When you return to the UK you will need to travel with the old passport (which will be canceled) and the new passport.
