Maintenance Funds - Joint Account (Australia)

Post by justy » Wed Jul 23, 2008 4:28 am

Heres a question for all you knowledgable people. My gf is applying and we have a joint account that she intends to use as part of her maintenance requirement.

Per the British website:
Maintenance (funds) can include:
money held in a joint account that have been in your joint account for at least three months before your application;

Per the Australian Visa Uk website:
Joint statements with spouses are acceptable. Joint statements with other family members (e.g parent, child) are not acceptable.

So what does that mean? Do you have to be married to have your joint account accepted? Can spouse be long term partner?

Hi

You have to be legally married to your girl friend to show a joint account with her for maintenance proof. Joint account with a long term partner will not be accepted.

Convert your joint account into a single account in the name of your GF and get the bank to issue the statement / letter in her name.

As the man applicant, she will be able to use the same account to support a dependent application (for you) as well.
