Sent off passport application at the Gloucester Road office in London today. Happily I didn't have to surrender my British passport for an indefinite amount of time as they made a certified copy there and then and returned it to me. If all is correct hoping to have it in 6-8 weeks!
Due to an error on the form the documents and a new application form were sent back to me, including a pre-addressed envelope to Cork so I could fill it out again and send it back direct. Happily this hasn't delayed things further as my passport was despatched yesterday (25/10) with an estimated arrival date of November 1st - until recently the day after Brexit! Looking forward to finally receiving it and then it's the comparatively easy turn of the passport card.

Congratulations everyone - good to see people are getting certificates.

Passport application is now showing on the tracker with an estimated date of the beginning of December.

So by the time I actually get it in hand if it really takes that long it will be about 9 weeks for the passport - ah well.

Luke125swalker - I wonder what they need to do administration wise after they receive it, did they give you any indication how long they would need to keep hold of it for? Hope you get it soon.

Just to say, I have my certificate now, so my timeline for Sulla was:

Sent application to London embassy on 5 November 2018, received by them the following day.
Received email on 12 March 2019 saying application received
Call from them 2nd October asking to confirm address
Received FBR certificate 21st October. (FBR dated 2nd October)

Now got to apply for the passport.

Thanks for the additional information. I have moved you to the November applicants group from March as I think that more accurately reflects the wait time you had.

Hi All

So here is my final timeline for FBR and Passport

FBR received 28/09/2018 - added 30/09/2019
Passport received 14/10/2019 - printed 22/10/2019 (total time scale including carriage to/from UK was 8/10/2019 - 26/10/2019)

This is the end of my journey here and the start of another one! Thanks to Sulla and everyone else as this forum was a great help when not knowing what was going on. Looks like things are progressing at a better pace for FBR and passports times are very short from UK when sent direct to Cork.

It looks like the timescales are improving a bit for FBR; maybe 11 months instead of 12 months.

Despite my application being received at the London Embassy in mid-January 2019, I am still working on a worst case assumption of 12 months from receipt in Balbriggan late February 2019. That way, any news prior to early March 2020 would be a welcome surprise!

For info: In case anyone tries to contact the DFA, it's a public holiday in Ireland today so I doubt they're working!

Thanks

Slight error on my part FBR should read received 28/08/2018 - added 30/08/2019 - my mistake - anyhow timescale for FBR the same - 1 year!

Sent my passport form off today via Passport Express in Glasgow.

Does anyone know how long it takes to start tracking online?

Currently seeing this message when I try to track it:

"The application number entered does not exist in our database. Please enter your passport application number again."

I assume it takes a few days before it arrives in Cork to start tracking the process... I hope.

Currently waiting time is 15 working days.

I think Sulla (or someone else) mentioned a few pages back that every embassy/consulate seems to handle it differently. Mine only took one day to show in the tracker and I lodged my application with the Irish Embassy in Canberra, Australia (Seems they enter it into the tracker immediately) however it seems that for some applicants, it doesn't show in the tracker until it reaches Ireland. I don't think it makes an ounce of difference in the end. I doubt I'll get it any faster than others, i'll just feel like it took longer if you know what I mean? :D

Mine took 10 days to show on the tracker, that was taking it to an embassy. I was told 6 weeks but I misunderstood and thought it was 6 weeks from when took to the embassy but the estimated issue date is 6 weeks from when showed on the tracker.

Update:
Received email confirming address today Sept 29, 2019.

It states in the email that I will need to be there to sign for the package. Does anyone know if they will warn you prior to date of arrival? Or if I am not home would they bring it to the local post office? Might be a Canada specific problem.

That's not that bad. Mine showed in the tracker right away. However, it took over 9 weeks for me to receive it. At least there is a tracker and webchat available for passports. There is less uncertainty than with FBR.

Congratulations!

Out of interest, is that receieved date at an Embassy (e.g. London) or in Ireland (i.e. with DFA at Balbriggan)?

My application was received at the London Embassy mid-January and received at Balbriggan late February, so potentially we are time-similar cases.

And it arrived earlier - Tuesday 29th. Very happy to finally have the passport in my hand.

Note that, after I sent the replacement form, the total time between receiving the application in Cork and the passport arriving in London was just eight days - not bad for a first time application and far less than the 6-8 week estimation!! Definitely seems like things have heavily sped up recently, and by all accounts my final step (the passport card) is the easiest/quickest of all.

Total time between FBR application sent & passport arriving = 13 months!

I've only just sent my FBR docs to Balbriggan on Tuesday from the UK, long wait ahead.
I guess the best thing to do, would be to forget about it!
