Right of Abode

Hi,

My children have successfully registered as British through MN1. At the moment, they are currently holding Malaysian passport, however, since Malaysian law does not recognized dual nationality, I was thinking of applying Certificate of Entitlement to the Right of Abode for them.

I would like to know if this is possible? And does anyone know what is the current processing time?

If Malaysia does not allow dual citizenship, then how a COE sticker is going to make any difference ??! The kids are British (whether they have a British passport or not) and so I assume Malaysian authorities expect them to renounce their Malaysian citizenship. COE sticker will not enable them to hold both nationalities if Malaysia does not allow such thing

I have asked Malaysian embassy regarding this, and they seems to allow Roa for Malaysian as long as they did not hold more than one passport. Thus, my reluctance to apply British passport for them. In addition, children below 21 are not allowed to renounce any nationalities. So, I assume Roa is the only way to go now.

From Home Office perspective, would children who have registered as British through MN1 allowed to apply Roa? I just want to be safe.

That seems kind of bizarre if dual nationality is not allowed. Anyway all British citizens have right of abode in the UK. So yes they can get a COE sticker in their passports
