• tests, diagnoses faults and undertakes repair of electronic equipment.

They cannot do that. It is considered age discrimination which isn't allowed in the UK.I think the company should have specifically stated in the ad about age which they did not.
That would have been more appropriate yes.Or at the start of the hiring process they should have asked my age which would have saved a lot of hassle.
