Passport expiry

Hi,

I am going to apply residency in ireland. But the current processing time is 24 months approx. But my passport expires in a years time.
Will this affect my appliation process? or
Can I go and apply for a new passport before applying residency?

GIRI
it takes more than 2 years before they say yes or no, so the best thing to do is change your passport before hand.
