Applied through NCS Grantham MN1 application: 17th dec 2018
Recived biometric enrolment email : 3rd Jan 2019
biometric enrolled @ Chennai INdia : 7th jan 2019 Chennai vfs
recived 'Certificate of nationality' at my home UK: 12th february 2019
Can you please share your experience on how did you apply for british passport from India after getting british citizenship certificate?
Do we need to surrender our child Indian passport immediately after getting Citizenship certificate? If yes, what visa should the child need to apply for to live in India until he receive british passport?
In our case child is residing with his grandparents and both parents are in UK.
Thanks in advance

hello,Indianspouse wrote: ↑Thu Jan 03, 2019 2:29 pmHello,
Just if it helps, I am sharing my experience. We just got our 4 months old son’s first British passport in India. It took about 8 weeks. Our son is born in India. I am an Indian citizen and my husband is British citizen. We are STILL required to surrender our son’s Indian passport. Indian immigration authorities have asked us to do this as early as possible and apply for our son’s visa at FRRO. So an Indian child cannot hold both passports REGARDLESS of what Indian policy says and regardless of how the child got the other nationality. This was the advice given to us by a senior ranking immigration officer of India.

Applied in September at VFS Delhi, got a mail from HMPO in November that i had forgotten to sign the form so had to send it again. Finally got invited for the interview in January and got the passport in the first week of February. Suppose it took twice the amount of time because of the missing signature.
The documentation was pretty much in line with what they had asked for except his mother's passport at the time of conception was lost and i had to file a police complaint for it.
The interview lasted 45 minutes and was more of chit-chat than an interview. This happened at the VFS centre via a video call on skype. Have listed most of what was asked
What is your full name
How do you spell it
What is your current address
How do you spell the town?
What is the name of your child in whose name the application has been made
How do you spell it?
Where was he born?
What is your son like?
What is the name of the hospital in which he was born
Is that a big building?
what do you remember of that building when you see it from the front?
how many floors do you think it has
What is the procedure for getting the brith certificate?
Were there any complications in the delivery?
What doctors do you see at the hospital?
Is that the same place you go for vaccinations?
Is it a multi speciality hospital?
Were you allowed inside the operating hall?
Was it tedious?
Did you have all the documents?
Where were you born?
How were you in the UK?
How old were you when you came to India?
On whose passport did you travel?
What is your wife name?
How do you spell it?
Where was she born?
How do you spell the name of the town?
When did you get married?
Your marriage date and the date of registration of your marriage show a big gap, any particular reason why you have that gap (we got it registered 4 years later)
How do you obtain the marriage certificate
Was it hard or tedious?
What is the procedure of getting married?
Who is the counter signatory?
How do you know him?
Did you face any issues while filling in the form?
Do you think you got all the information and document right?
How many times have you been to the UK after that?
Have you travelled up north as well?
That was it and the lady said you should hear from the passport office in 2-4 weeks depending on how the workload at the passport office is.
I finally got a message that a package has been sent from HMPO to the high commission in delhi and finally heard from VFS delhi a few days ago. Now going to apply for his OCI.
If you have any specific questions i would be happy to answer them.
Cheers
