After foreign contract ends, applying to another job at HQ in UK - Tier 2 possible?

If I get a 6-month contract with a company in Canada and then apply to another job at their head office in the UK right before or right after the contract in Canada ends, will they be able to sponsor me on a regular Tier 2 visa (not ICT)? Or would I be considered pre-selected because I had already worked there and they know me? My goal is to eventually get permanent residence in the UK.
