UKM and original documents

I'm in the process of applying for citizenship via the UKM route - double descent from my mother's side of the family. I'm a SOuth African citizen. I'm currently in the UK on an ancestral visa and hold a valid BRP
I note Form UKM requires the submission of both original SA passport and my BRP - if I submit the originals I will not be able to travel for the entire period my application is being reviewed. I travel regularly for work (every 2 weeks or so). Am I able to submit certified copies of both with an explanatory note?
