Social welfare due to COVID-19 & application

Post by Lj0123 » Sun Mar 15, 2020 6:11 pm

Hi

I can’t see an existing post about this and there may be people in the same situation.

There are a lot businesses closing at least until the end of the month based on Government advice. My partner’s company is closing and have told all employees to apply online for social welfare.

We are currently waiting for decision on our application based on EU TR. I’m now worried about the implications and if this will have a negative impact?

I am EU citizen. I will continue be paid by employer during this period. My partner is Non-EU currently on temporary stamp 4.

Thanks

Does anyone know where we can get information about this? I really need to apply for the covid 19 6 week payment but if it's going to affect my plans to apply for citizenship I prefer to deal with the consequences of no money .

Nobody is going to fail the genuine economic activity test because of the pandemic. IF once its all over the EU citizen doesn't manage to go back to work, at some point it will impact then, but not as a result of the shut downs.

This is a really important question for both new and ongoing visa and naturalisation applications. Has anyone emailed INIS to check for clarification?

There is now a post about Visa extensions due to the immigration office closing. Hopefully when everything is back up and running they will release something official on this. In the meantime there may not be an option to not claim for some people :/

INIS dont have balls to write "No it will not affect citizenship application"

Read Q39 on attached

GOV site says they will not share any info with DJE/INIS

Does anyone ever applied for citizenship and got rejected for claiming social benefit in the past. Covid payment is an exception yet i would call it social benefit therefore asking.

There really isn’t anything that we can further discuss here. The government and ISD have already given their answers. We cannot elaborate or interpret their meaning further without an application being rejected or approved (which won’t happen in at least 3-6 months).

The bottomline (as far as I understand it) is that you should apply for the benefit if you are eligible, but you should at the same time actively look for jobs. I would imagine that the government is okay with people being laid off or made redundant for a few months due to the virus, and would only target those who do not actively want to return to workforce after the situation is over.
