I think there is come confusion related to this question. My interpretation is as below:

The question is:
5.1 Is your partner accompanying you or joining you later?
You should answer "YES" if any of the following is true:
1. Accompanying you or
2. Joining Later
You should answer "NO" only if both of above are false.

Anyways, I dont think it would be any issue with a "YES" or "NO" answer as long as you have provided names of your dependents. Better to attach the email from VFS with your application to be safe.

Hi all,
I was also in the same assumption as CoolestGuy.
ra_njan you have filled your application in the manner in which u said. Can u pls let me know what answer you gave for the below questions

According to you the answer for part 5.1 was NO. I came to know that you also have have 2 dependents(Wife and kid) by reading your previous posts. So can you pls let me know what you had answered for part 5.5 and 5.6
5.1 Is your partner accompanying you or joining you later? If they are travelling later please provide their date of travel in Part 7.
(If single go to 5.5) Put a cross (x) in the relevant box
Yes No

5.5 Do you have any children under 18 accompanying you
or joining you at a later date? Put a cross (x) in the relevant box
Yes No
5.6 If ‘Yes’ please provide full details about the child/children. If ‘No’ go to Question 5.7

Maintenance Fund - Main+Dependant

Post by Jedi001 » Mon Aug 18, 2008 1:12 am

I have a mail from Entry Clearance Manager which i think answers how much we should have while applying for UK Tier1 when our dependants are not coming to UK with us.

Here is my email to them:

Subject: UK Tier 1 - Dependants query
Respected Sir/Madam,

I would highly appreciate if someone please could answer the below query for me.

TIER 1 (GENERAL) MIGRANT SELF- ASSESSMENT form and I see the below statement in the form.

"In order for the application to be approved you must have a minimum level of funds and score 10 points for your level of funds. If you do not score 10 points the application will be refused. You must have £2,800 available funds for yourself plus £1,600 for each dependant accompanying you or intending to join you in the United Kingdom within 12 months of your arrival in the United Kingdom."

In my case my wife and kid are planning to join me after 5 months once I get settled there. So could you please let me know what is the amount I have to fill in the section 7.1 below?

"7.1 Please calculate the amount of funds required for you and the dependants name in the Personal Details part of this application form and enter the amount here."

Do I have to save 2800 Pounds (for myself) + 3200 Pounds (wife & kid) even if I am planning to apply alone and will apply for my dependants later on?

Best Regards,
XXXX X XXXXX

Mr XXXXX

You need to show £2800 when you apply. Then your family needs to show £1600 each when they apply. Their funds must therefore total £3200 and be in addition to the funds that you showed at the time of your application.

Kind regards

Dear Mr XXXX X XXXXX,

Thank you for your e-mail.

You may show funds to the tune of £2800 for your application. However, your dependant will be required to show funds at the time lodging her application £1600 per head.

Trust the above clarifies.

Yours Sincerely,

I am going to attach one of these emails to my application and hopefully this will sort out the situation for me.

Hopefully these emails are helpful to someone who has dependants and is not applying for them with the main application.
