Hi,
I wish to understand the next steps involved in obtaining the British passport for my kid.
My kid's position is:
1. He was born in UK in Sept 2015. At the time of birth, both parents were on T2G visa.
2. Father received his ILR in Aug 2019 and mum in Dec 2019 after completing the 5-year route in T2G category.
3. Kid applied for British citizenship in Mar 2020 and in June 2020 we received the 'Certificate of registration as a British Citizen' letter.
My questions:
1. Can he apply online for the British Passport straight away or is there any need to attend for any ceremony etc. I think not as he is 4 years old however need guidance.
2. The right time to apply for passport: Please note his current BRP (T2G dependent) expires in Sept 2020 (i believe that is irrelevant now) and passport in Dec 2020 (5 years duration for kids). Therefore when is the best time to apply or how much max I can wait given the covid situation and current government guidance not to apply for a passport if the travel in non-urgent.
3. His current nationality is India which doesn't allow dual citizenship. Therefore what is the way ahead in terms of surrendering the current Indian passport and getting the British one? whether I have to liaise with the Indian embassy separately for Indian passport surrender or British Passport issuance will take care of this aspect. Do I need to send the Indian passport as well with other documents physically or upload soft copies in some portal?
Please help me in getting these queries clarified.
Thanks
