I have recently got hsmp approval, i want advice on whether I need to take my family with me immediately or they can join after a year, I need them to stay back for winding up selling property etc. Alternatively is there any procedure by which I can get more than 3 months to apply for EC, basically can the hsmp be extended beyond 3 months if I dont apply for EC within 3 months ?

No, they don't have to travel with you. But I suggest you get EC together, so they don't have to apply separately.

EC stamp can be postdated by 3 months (you still have to apply within 3 months of getting approval letter, but you get 6 months total). But this depends on which consulate you are applying to. Some don't allow it.
