Emergency Travel before Decision

Hello all,

Was wondering if anyone has had experience with a similar situation:

Tier 2 Visa holder is about to switch jobs so has to reapply for a visa due to sponsor change. The Visa holder's mother is very ill and could deteriorate any moment. We have obtained a letter from the hospital detailing how bad the condition is, and plan to petition the HO to allow emergency travel and/or fast track the visa.
Has anyone here ever successsfuly made such a petition?
