Professional graduate certificate in education as proof of linguistic competence

Hi,
looking at the past messages in the forum I can see that many people have asked over time if a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) can be used as evidence of fluency in the English language when applying for citizenship, although I could not see conclusive answers.

My situation is slightly different as I have a "Professional graduate certificate in education" from the University of Bristol. This is still shortened as PGCE to increase confusion, but is not a master degree (I did not care to get the credits to make it a master as I already have a PhD from another country - a non English speaking one).

Now, this still is a qualification that only people with a previous degree can obtain. Any idea if that would be accepted?

If I were you I would not rely on using this qualification as an English language assessment for my application as it is not a degree per se and case workers usually go on exact terms stated in the HO regulations and may not see your logical explanations about it being a degree level qualification. Unless someone else advises you to go ahead with it, you should either get a NARIC visa and nationality certificate for your previous masters/PhD (pro- online application, quick turn around max 10 days if you have all required documents they need on their website, con- more expensive and more work if you don’t have all documentation in place) or take an IELTS B1 test (pro-my personal preference as this is much easier and slightly cheaper, con- can take upto 2 weeks until you get results and you have to go to a centre for the test).

Diplomas
Applicants holding a postgraduate diploma, or a graduate diploma from a UK
university, are considered to have the required level of English for a ILR or
citizenship application.
Postgraduate diplomas are usually abbreviated as PGDip, PG Dip, PgD, PgDip.
Examples would be:
• postgraduate diploma in legal practice
• graduate diploma in law
• postgraduate diploma in education
• postgraduate diploma in teaching
