MN1 application form

Post by Niko_2703 » Wed Jul 15, 2020 9:37 pm

Dear Sir/Madame

I am an European Citizen who applied for Naturalisation and received it, but wasn’t able to attend a citizenships ceremony due to Corona Virus pandemic.
My husband is in UK since 2006, I came with the girls in 2011. We all received PR in 2016.
At the moment me and my husband applied for citizenship we didn’t include our daughters because we couldn’t afford it.Now I want to register them as British citizens but I’m not sure what section shall I tick... The question is :
You were born outside the Uk
.
.
.
.
- One or both of your parents is applying for British citizenship
- Other - Home Secretary Discretion
I excluded the other options as not reliable but I’m confused regarding these last two, because we applied before not in the same time with them.

Then regarding the absences/holiday of the girls it should be for the last 3 or 5 years?

And another issue is when it comes to sign at the end, I sign as applicant or as representative? ( the age of the girls are 10 & 13 years old so in my opinion am the applicant?

I hope you’ll help me asap!

Many thanks

It is the "Other" option.

There is no absence limit for children under 18.

Thank you for replying so quick...how about the signature? What am I? The applicant or a representative?

Children under age or 16 are to be accompanied by parent/guardian. You will be the representative and the form should ask your details/relationship with the child. You will sign not the child.

Hello again,

I ask Haringey Law Center about the application before joining the group here and the answer I received from them is that I should sign as applicant because I am the one who is applying. And regarding the first question they said that I should choose : One or both parents are applying for British citizenship instead Home Secretary discretions, because I’m not a british Citizen yet they are saying...

I do apologise but now I’m more confused than ever because I received 2 different answers.
What do you think?

A child born abroad is registered at the discretion of the Secretary of State and you must select the 'OTHER' options.

Unclear how you can select 'One or both parents are applying for British citizenship' when both parents are NOT applying with the child at the same time.

A parent signs for the child if the child is under 18.

Yes none of us are applying at the same time, maybe if we would’ve fill a AN form now and add an MN1 the answer will be as they say.

Regarding the signature I know that a parent should sign for a child under 18 but I’ll sign as applicant or representative? Because I saw that I’ll thick as representative it’ll take me straight to the pay page... not asking any other details.

Dear admin,
After choosing *Home Secretary Discretion the next question is : ‘Are either of the parents of child applying for naturalisation as British citizen on AN form?’ .... what shall I answer as I applied in February?

And then when it’s asking about parents nationality shall I choose British citizens as since yesterday we are British, or Romanian? Because we have dual citizenship now.

Thank you very much and I apologise that I’m disturbing a lot! 🙈

Tick applicant and sign as a parent. Such things do not result in refusal anyways.

The questions seems like if the parent is applying together on an AN form with the child so it will be NO as you already have British Citizenship.

Just state your nationality as British. To register the child as BC via MN1, either of the parent has to be settled in UK or British.
So you will have to send that proof.

If choosing representative does not give you an option to list your relationship to the child later on, just tick applicant and sign as a parent.

If you don’t mind...regarding the question about Home Secretary Discretion, do you think I should choose that?

For children registration it is always "discretion".
You are not UK citizen yet, since you did not attend the ceremony. I would not say that you are UK citizen, or "applying" on the form.
Instead, after submitting the form, I would upload:
your decision letter (and your and your husband's PR documents),
and cover letter (where you explain that your naturalisation is approved and you are awaiting the ceremony, and that your husband also applied for naturalisation already - and give his application number).

Wait wait. I just did not follow the thread properly sorry. As rightly pointed out by the previous user, if you have not attended your ceremony, you still are Romanian only. You are not British as of now.
You will be applying on the basis of your settled status and send that as a proof.
I am not sure about the other question as I do not have the form in front of me.
There should be an option on the form that one of the parents is settled.

There is not that options... the options are:
- your parent is british by decent and lived in the Uk for at least 3 years
- your parent is British by decent and you and your parents are now living in the Uk
- you were born on or after 13 January 2010 and your parent was serving in the Uk armed forces
- you were adopted abroad by british citizen parents
- you were born before 1 July 2006 to a British father
- one or both of your parents is applying for British citizenship
- other- apply at discretion of Home Secretary

The next question is as in the picture.

I believe it is unclear if the question is asking about the parents (stated in the application) applying for AN together with the child or not. Since you already have applied on AN and approved also, I would be inclined to say yes.

Even if you say no, it takes you to the next question where it asks about settled status of the child.

Author says that all family obtained PR in 2016. So children have permanent residence.
Now, indeed, it is not clear what to choose on the form - "parents are applying for citizenship " or "other".
I guess it is better to choose "parents are applying".
(Though children are always registered at the discretion..)
In any case, this is the situation where cover letter explaining your circumstances is very important.
There is also, I believe, a section on the form proper "additional info", where tou can state that parents applied earlier, and one is approved - and refer to cover letter (it is limited to 500 symbols, so one cannot write much)

We attended a citizenship ceremony on 24th July so now we are british citizen. This is confusing me about what shall I choose.
