Study visa - spouse

Post by jjloubser » Thu Aug 28, 2008 9:52 am

My wife wants to come and study in Ireland, as we have always wanted to spend some time abroad. The idea is that she will study & I will work - although we would have enough euro's to support ourselves & her tuition before we come over. Can I get a dependancy visa - similar to that in the UK, which will allow me to work while she studies?

We are from South Africa & therefore not part of the EU

Hi there,

the following describes that it is not the general rule to allow family members to accompany a student - http://www.citizensinformation.ie/categ ... nification However, it does say that exceptions can be made.

Ireland isn't the best with allowing dependents of non-EU nationals to work, so I'd say your best bet is to get a work permit in your own right.

The U.K incl.Northern Ireland would be a better idea for that kind of a plan.
