5 Year visitor visa & Documents list

Hi Friends and immigration gurus,

I have indefinite leave to remain. I m thinking to invite my parents from India for visiting us . They have never been to UK before . This is will be first time, Dad (62) still working and mom home maker . So my question is it safe to apply for 5 years visitor visa ? Or should I first apply 6 months . Please give me your opinion and please share recent doccuments list you applied for the visitor visa.

Any maintenance required for this visa ?

Highly UNlikely that they will get a 5 year visitor visa with no UK travel history in the past.

Or should I first apply 6 months .

Yes. They need to prove that they stick to the rules of their visa for a few trips before trying for a 2 year visa and then a 5 year visa.

There is no maintenance fund as such for a visitor visa. Your parents both have to prove their ties to their home country, ie. family, social, employment, financial, property etc etc.

Well 6 months initially and then 6 month break, probably visit us again. I thought it would be good idea to get it for 5years.

So it will be 6 months now

6 months if not a 'visit', it is 'residing' under the guise of a visit visa. A visit is a couple of weeks to max couple of months. If you state a 6 month visit, you risk a visa refusal. Your father would also have to include a letter from his employer stating he has been granted annual leave/holiday for x amount of time. 6 months would be excessive for any employer.

It is very risky for your parents to try use a visitor visa to stay in the UK longer term. Factor in the cost of travel insurance too, where it is rare that a single trip of 6 months will be covered.
