It is 180 days in ANY 12 month rolling period, regardless of visa issue date or date of ILR application.

so it calculated start from 01-01-2020 to 31-12-2020 (12 months, total absence my less than 180 days), and then 01-01-2021 to 31-12-2021 (12 months).

Alex132, pick any date of the year and the next 364/5 days that makes it a year is what is referred to as rolling period.
Not the set year start to year end as your example above.

It said: The highlighted part is the correct meaning. But a "year" is calculated backwards from the application date. So, if you apply on 24th June, the year is from 25th June to 24th June.

ANY start and END date covering a 365 days period. You should NOT have more than 180 days in ANY period
