Working on a Stamp 2 (student) permission as a graduate

Post by dunks1887 » Mon Oct 12, 2020 2:38 pm

If a current Stamp 2 holder is a recent graduate and has submitted their application for the Stamp 1G are they permitted to continue working 20 hours a week while they await the Stamp 1G to process? The recent update on the INIS website states:

"By notice of 18 September, all permissions that are due to expire from 20th September 2020 - 20th January 2021 are automatically renewed by the Minister to the 20th January 2021. In order for students to maintain their permission, including the right to work, they must re-enrol in a course of study in accordance with the terms and conditions of the ILEP.

In summary, all students on a stamp 2 permission are required to be currently enrolled on a course of study and be either registered or have applied to do so. Failure to adhere to these conditions will result in future registration applications being refused."

If all Stamp 2's have been automatically renewed by the Minister to the 20th January 2021 can recent graduates work part-time on that Stamp 2 until that date? The re-enrol aspect is confusing for graduates; how can they simultaneously get an extension of their Stamp 2 but also need to re-enrol to maintain their permission, including the right to work?

Yes you can continue working on Stamp 2 if you have graduated recently and have applied for Stamp 1G. You do not need to enrol in a different course if you wish to avail of Stamp 1G.

The maximum working hours are subject to the standard Stamp 2 rules (20 hours in general, with the exception of winter and summer holiday period when you can work 40 hours).

Once you get your Stamp 1G, you can work full time.
