I am thinking of delaying my Tier 2 Extension until December given all the delays and issues with the UKVI at the moment. My current BRP expires 31-12-2020 but I need to travel outside the UK and will return 28-12-2020, 4 days before my current BRP expires. My COS would have been assigned and my application would be ready to submit same day i.e. 28-12-2020. Does anyone know if there’ll be an issue regaining entry to the UK 4 days before current leave expires?

No issue. However in the ever changing COVID environment, you could end up getting stuck outside the UK and your visa expiring.
