Experience entering UK at Heathrow

Post by denden » Mon Apr 25, 2005 3:27 pm

I entered the UK with an HSMP EC visa just over a week ago.
I arrived at Heathrow airport.

I had lots of documentation with me - original approval letter, all the paperwork I submitted with my application, a detailed 12-month budget, and also a chest X-ray, with a report on what the X-ray showed.

However, none of it was necessary. The immigration official just looked at the EC visa stamp and asked what my field was and whether I already had a job (I said no because I don't.)

Then he stamped my visa with the date, and that was it. He didn't even ask to see the approval letter.

My experience could be the exception rather than the norm, and I wouldn't advise people not to come prepared with all of their HSMP documentation and a budget. But I just thought I'd share what happened to me.

Actually the ECO's were alraedy prepared for these circumstances. They do ask if you dont have the neccessary documentation like, proof of appropriate residence and funds etc. And ofcourse they dont even ask if you already have and obviously show them. Here are the most important things to consider before your arrival:(remember i am writing this info worldwide not for a specific country)
1- Your proper documentation regarding to your residence in UK
2- Proof of your arrival (HSMP approval letter)
3- Chest X-rayr with report from qualified radiologist AND
your papers related to your HSMP and further EC as supplementry proof.
Documents may differ in case of spouse arrival.

Just to clarify...

The only thing I showed the immigration official was my passport with the EC visa stamp. I also said that I was arriving for the first time on HSMP.

I had all of the other documentation, but I was never asked to present them, and I didn't show any of it to the official.

Is a chest X ray really necessary?

Tyce --> Depends on what country you come from. I would consult a specialist if you're concerned but I would think that developed western countries are exempt.
