Application for a first time British passport

Post by LiverpoolYNWA » Fri Nov 13, 2020 3:05 pm

Hello guys,

I'm planning to apply for a British passport after I become a British national via naturalisation soon.

On the guidelines it says this:

"You have a certificate of naturalisation or registration

You’ll need both:

1. Your naturalisation or registration certificate
2. The passport you used to come into the UK or the foreign passport you’re included on"

The first point is fine but second point is a problem because we did not use a passport to enter UK (not legally). (I was child when we came and also I do not have a birth certificate).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

What identity document did you use for naturalisation?
If you don't have a passport you need to explain this in a note - and explain how you got naturalised.
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.

Thank you for the reply, we had 6 (3+3) limited leave to remain then indifinte leave to remain (BRP). We used our BRP.

Perhaps a call to the passport helpline may be in order - unless someone else could shed more light on this.
Whatever the advice is you should certainly include a cover letter to explain the circumstances.

Just for future reference if someone is wondering.

I spoke with an advisor online and they told me to send a cover letter along with my documents. The person told me write that I didn't enter the UK with a passport nor I've held a passport.

I wrote a cover letter and also sent my expired travel document to them.

And thankfully I was approved today, however they keep the travel document.
