Supplying passport for Tier 1 application

Hello,

I'm really sorry if this question has been asked before, but I have searched and couldn't find a precise answer.

I work in India and have a job that requires me to travel quite a bit. I intend to apply for the UK Tier 1 General Visa soon and hence wanted to ask whether I need to submit my Passport with this application.

Also, does going through a visa consultant help?

Yes - you do need to submit your passport.
