Re: Citizenship Ceremony cancelled due to Covid-19

Post by lmannova » Sun Nov 29, 2020 12:56 am

Hello there,

so here I am back again..

I was approved on 20th July and still didn't get an invitation. Waiting for it for over 18 weeks.

I tried so many ways already and exhausted all my options and honestly I am tired of this. HO was contacted several times over the phone, they did escalate it 2x for me but never got back to me [even though they said in how many days I will hear from them]. Emailing them is not worth it as their current response is 3 months [tried]. Council doesn't have my certificate. I also contacted my local council from my previous address as I moved after the approval but they don't have it either [I wanted to try all possible options, you never know with HO]. Even though the address change was confirmed by HO, I don't trust them.

Although I am really happy people are getting their invitations, I am very frustrated, angry and sad.

Why are they not being honest? Are they hiding something? I really wish they would tell us.

And as I fast I wanted to get the biometrics done back in July once they opened the centres, I now regret it as I should have done it later on and not rush it.

But from the previous comments I believe there are also another people waiting, some even from May, June?

Address change especially in covid times can be very tricky. Make sure the post is not sent to your old address.

Did you also change the council after approval?

It could take ages changing councils even pre-corona, given covid, it can be a nightmare as you already are going through!

HO confirmed address change for me 2x so I guess that should be fine. I did redirect my post but then I found out redirection won't work on those letter so pointless too. I wouldn't need to change the council as I live near by both so that should be fine. When I was submitting an application, I already put down my future council as I knew I will be moving.

There have been cases where ceremony invitation letter was still sent at the old address even when HO confirmed the address change. Something to do with their technical department error. Also, if you already chose a council in your application, then most likely the certificate will be sent there. Always best to keep a contact at your previous address anyways (if possible).

Hi all,

Received my approval email on 20 August, received the ceremony invitation letter on Saturday 21 November which was dated on Wednesday 11 November and posted on Wednesday 18 November (HO said that in response to an old email enquiry). My council is Hounslow but the ceremony place in the letter is Hammersmith & Fulham. It just came like that, I didn't request a change.

I know how things happen unorganised at HO, so I reached out to both councils and learned that they didn't receive the certificate yet! They both confirmed that it should be H&F as mentioned in the letter. H&F officer asked me to check with them again by the end of the week and I did on Friday 27 November, the certificate is still not with them! I'm asked to reach out again in a week.

It didn't sound like a normal case to me because usually, the certificate is delivered to the council and the letter is delivered to the customer within the following 2 weeks. H&F officer said that there is a delay currently between customers receiving letters and them receiving the certificates. I don't know what to believe and what to expect. Just sharing in case some others might be experiencing similar.

No one as far as I know. I am in Kent and my approval was 12th of October so I will get it in mid december. According to baybars model.

If you applied through a solicitor does the brown envelope with the invitation for the ceremony go to them or would it be sent to me? Thanks

If you have applied through a solicitor they will send the invitation to them, not to you.

Anyone know how long it will take to receive invitations letter from home office ?

I had approval in November ,nearly 3 week now . I assume it is taking about 2 months now a days ?

I read in some post about some formula to estimate date , anyone please you can share that post .

Thanks

That would bring you to end of Dec most likely, given that some August and most September approvals haven't received their invitations yet.

I am shocked people are still waiting for Ceremony invitation who got approval in Sep 2020 and hounslow council has not updated website since August
I am hounslow too. We have almost the same timeline, same decision pushed via post after survey email circumstance and now the same council too!!
Yeah, I hope will get our invitation soon as on my approval letter they have not mention any time-frame about the ceremony invitiation
Same. All approvals since Nov do not mention the “12 week” wait.
do you think will get our Invitation letter before mid of DEC 2020...

Hi - the latest we’ve seen is 21 Sept? Anyone else later than that? I was approved 23 Sept. Shouldn’t take long, maybe next week... 1st week Dec.

Yep, same approval date. Nothing yet. I am hopeful for this week, however, my council hasn't received my certificate yet so not certain, it might be the following week, so slightly delayed from baybars1 model... fingers crossed..

That would bring you to end of Dec most likely, given that some August and most September approvals haven't received their invitations yet.
Thank you . I believe so . Friend of mine got decision in September in in 10 days but got invited in November.
I believe November would be getting in December or more likely in January because of Christmas and new year, we will lose about 10-15 days of working.

do you think will get our Invitation letter before mid of DEC 2020...
I hope so but I am not raising my expectations too high. I believe the earliest will be mid dec 2020 and the latest we will get by start January 2021. I will update here as soon I get mine. You also please update here when you receive yours as we both have similar timelines.

Hey, waiting since April, no letter, no certificate. The phone helpline escalated my case last week, they said the HO should get in contact within 10 working days (which I'm not very hopeful about as previously they didn't follow through on the timelines they provided).
I think you can take the following actions:
1. Submit a complaint here https://www.ukvi-complaints.homeoffice.gov.uk/reason that the HO failed to deliver within the stated timeline of 12 weeks.
2. You might reach out to your MP, apparently the HO is legally obliged to respond to MPs.

Please post here if you find anything that works as I and a couple of other people on this forum are struggling with the same issue.

I'm in the same situation, can I suggest creating a separate thread in which we could track how many of forgotten application HO has got?
