Good character requirement

Post by Pulpulp » Fri Dec 25, 2020 1:38 am

Hello ~

I am going to apply the new BNO visa scheme for the UK settlement.
But I had 2 times criminal convictions of cannabis 10yrs ago. Both were non custodial sentences with penalty fines only.
As you might know the situation of Hong Kong, this is important to move with my family. But I am the only one who have the British passport eligible to apply the visa scheme.
As my situation, ami most likely to lead to refusal ? Anything I can do to help ??

Thank you

To the best of my knowledge, the good character requirement is only for the 10 years previous to the application date, so if the convictions were made before that period of time, then you're likely to be fine.

If you are too worried, then it might be worthwhile to consult with a specialist immigration lawyer, just to be safe. It's an expensive application, better feel safe.

Note that the OP is asking about a BNO visa application, not a citizenship application. Compared to other non-EEA applications (which typically cost £1000+ for a 2.5 year visa+IHS), a BNO visa is very cheap (at only £250+IHS for a five year visa).
Q&A: The BNO visa scheme, what we know so far wrote:A five-year visa will cost £250, and a 2.5-year visa will cost £180.

The BNO visa will be subject to the immigration health surcharge, amounting to £624 per year. This means a five-year BNO visa will attract the immigration health surcharge of £3,120. The 2.5-year BNO visa will attract the immigration health surcharge of £1,560.
I am not a lawyer or immigration advisor. My statements/comments do not constitute legal advice. E&OE. Please do not PM me for advice.

You are right! I completely misread it. I though he's talking about a naturalisation application, I'm sorry. I'm not familiar with the visa requirement for a good character, please disregard my advice.
