Travel Abroad while waiting for ceremony letter

Post by Qurjib » Sun Jan 03, 2021 3:51 pm

Hi all

I got my ILR in August 2019. After completion of one year, I applied for naturalization in August 2020. My naturalization application got approved and I got the approval email on 20th November 2020. I am still waiting for the ceremony invitation letter.

I need to go back home (Pakistan) for four months for some urgent reasons.
My question is: Can I travel out of the UK while waiting for my ceremony invitation letter?
Will it affect my citizenship application in any way (as I am still waiting for ceremony letter)?
Will there be a problem for me on immigration counter when I will come back to the UK?

Thanks for your replies in advance.

You are free to travel. You are only British once you have attended your ceremony.

Note that there is a risk that you miss the ceremony, you have to be in the UK for this even if it is virtual, and if you miss it, your documents are sent back to ukvi and you have to start and pay for the whole process again.
