Expecting my letter of approval along with my acknowledgment letter
Expecting proper communication from INIS is a bit much in fairness. They treat future citizens quite terribly. Easily the worst government service I've yet to encounter.agliolio wrote: ↑Wed Dec 30, 2020 10:22 pmI more mean communicated with us through giving more regular updates about whether or not they are working.
You’re right in that they warned us about delays, but it would be helpful to hear about some form of status of things nonetheless.
@Martin79, I think you were lucky and got to it before the lockdowns took place!
But don't you think things could be done differently? It seems that the whole service is inefficient to the very core. For example, in the UK it took no more than 6 months to make a decision prior to COVID. Meanwhile we're easily looking at a year or more to even get to an advanced stage.Vorona wrote: ↑Wed Dec 30, 2020 8:13 pmThey have communicated this to you. You were advised that there will be significant delay with returning passports. I waited 5 months and had no problem with it because I read the warning.
The country is facing another lock-down. Very unlikely that their capacity will be reduced even further.
Be patient.
Yes, I do think that things could have been done better. But they're not.gabrielius wrote: ↑Thu Dec 31, 2020 11:43 amBut don't you think things could be done differently? It's honestly not that difficult to see if the money is there, that all the pages are there, the statutory declaration is completed etc. Passport verification could be done on site using all the necessary precautions. Rapid testing of the employees could easily solve the problem. The applications have been sitting in quarantine for months!
Your application is not the only one they're processing. You may still end up waiting several years for a decision, speculating won't help. It can be anything, from COVID to your documents and criminal history. There's no two identical cases. Lot of people received their passports as per 2020 timeline.gabrielius wrote: ↑Thu Dec 31, 2020 5:06 pmIt's honestly not that difficult to see if the money is there, that all the pages are there, the statutory declaration is completed etc. Passport verification could be done on site using all the necessary precautions. Would be interesting to know how many people are actually working on them. If it's in the single digits, then your estimation is generous to say the least. My application is as straightforward as it gets so hopefully it will be quick. The only criminal thing I've done is steal a cookie while I was still wearing a nappie haha.Vorona wrote: ↑Thu Dec 31, 2020 5:51 pmYour application is not the only one they're processing. Be patient, they know better what to do.
There was article in october 2019, that says "All citizenship applications are handled by 61 Inis staff in Tipperary, including both naturalisation (residents for five-plus years, or three years for spouses of Irish citizens) and “Irish association” applicants, eligible “through blood, affinity or adoption”. It think they hired some additional perm or temp staff but don't think it changed drastically.gabrielius wrote: ↑Thu Dec 31, 2020 5:57 pm

WHATTTTT?!?! You want them to treat you decently? INIS doesn't do personalised emails. They'll send you a generic one, if they're in the moodmamaqsoo wrote: ↑Sun Jan 10, 2021 1:43 pmI am in a similar situation.
Application submitted on 8th September and no news since then.
Don't even know when i will get my original passports back. Should i send them an email and ask about it ?
At least an email would be good to know that they have recieved the applications.
I'd say all the staff are out doing contact tracing. I just can't believe that something as stupid as opening the country for Christmas was enough to throw everything off for a few extra months. This might not age well, but I think another lockdown will occur around March/April considering how complacent people have gotten.agliolio wrote: ↑Sun Jan 10, 2021 5:47 pmFrom what I’ve been told, any new application’s cant be processed from home for data protection reasons. Which means staff need to be in the office to do so. Given Ireland is now in tier 5 again... I’m questioning if there are any staff in the office to process all these new applications. My guess is no and that they won’t be till ireland is out of tier 5 again.. sigh.
I think they contact the issuer of the passport. Some counterfeits are brilliant, but would fall short of the security checks on the issuer end of things. As you could imagine, language barriers are a big obstacle.Vorona wrote: ↑Sun Jan 10, 2021 6:28 pmPassports have to be checked to ensure they are not counterfeit or altered in any way. This is crucial part of establishing identity of a person. They must be using special equipment or tools to check passports. It is also very likely that they are not allowed to take passports home.
I've sent them 4 original passports, all were mine. No surprise it took them so long
They may send passports for authentication if they decide to do so. There have been cases where people submitted altered passports in order to hide their real identity and nationality.gabrielius wrote: ↑Sun Jan 10, 2021 6:48 pmI think they contact the issuer of the passport.
