Question about yearly earnings

Post by jonharvey » Fri Feb 26, 2021 5:35 am

Hi all,

I understand about the £18600 per year and i recently looked online and found that you can use the SEISS self employed government grants as evidence of your yearly income but my question is, I'm a taxi driver and some of the money that is paid to me is in cash, i don't always put this into my bank because certain outgoings are needed to be paid in cash, since i work under a company name i am provided every week with an earnings email which shows my exact earnings (both cash and card payments), i spoke to a solicitor and they told me that my bank account has to exactly match what i put on tax form however it won't match because of my cash payments, can i not just provide my earnings sheet from the company since it shows how much i actually got or will i need to show the exact amount (to the penny) in my bank statements?

I’m sure if you provide the document relating to your cash payment that would be accepted.

Self-employed income can be cash-in-hand if the correct tax is paid. It would generally be expected that the person’s business or personal bank statements would fully reflect all gross (pre-tax) cash income. Flexibility may only be applied where the decision-maker is satisfied that the cash income relied upon is fully evidenced by the relevant tax return(s) and the accounts information.
