hello everyone
hope you’re all doing well
I have a applied for my citizenship recently but as I was reading the format I was aware of the 10 year ban I thought it will start from the day I came to the UK as I wasn’t an illegal entrance But my friend told me likely will start from September2011 I came to UK on January 2011 I overstayed my visitor visa for two months that I was caught working illegal September 2011 and I was granted a five year refugee on August2012And I have a applied for my settlement in August 2017 was granted by December 2019 so my question would that lead to refusal because I haven’t fulfill the 10 years but yet which is due in September 2021 and your help would be much appreciated.

Your period of legal residence in the UK only started in August 2012.
Any naturalisation application before the tenth anniversary of your stay in the UK being legalised is likely to be refused.
I am not a lawyer or immigration advisor. My statements/comments do not constitute legal advice. E&OE. Please do not PM me for advice.

There isn't such a ban thing actually .It is guidance & not mandatory requirement & if a caseworker wants to apply discretion they can provided if they are satisfied with explanation.Sometimes they approve same applications & mostly reject. This good character policy isn't clear .It is only 2 months.
Many people think nationality is a privilege & discretionary. How on earth when you pay a huge amount for an application it becomes a privilege or discretion? It practically is treated as an immigration application .

You still have a chance to withdraw your application and could get a refund. But obviously choice is yours. If money is not an issue, you may want to test your luck. If refused, you will be able to apply again when you have 10 years legal stay in UK.

You should ideally have last 10 years
continuous lawful stay in UK from the date of application which started after you were granted refugee status in 2012.

Choice is yours.

What visa exactly were you granted to stay in UK in 2011?

As far as my knowledge, your lawful residence will count from when your asylum application was accepted and refugee status granted in 2012.

Periods of temporary admission will only qualify as lawful residence if leave to enter or remain is then later granted. So, for example, if an applicant is granted leave following a period of temporary admission, the time on temporary admission counts as lawful residence
Would be so grateful if you could shed some light on this?
Thank you

At any time in the last 10 years you should not have:
1) Overstayed
2) Worked illegally
The application is likely to be refused if any of the above is true. You said you were caught working illegally in Sep 2011. So that takes you to Sep 2021. If in Sep 2011 you had temporary admission to stay in UK, i think it should be okay to apply in Sep 2021, but you actually have two things to think about (overstay and illegal work).
