Enquiry about the time requirement for ILR

Dear Members,

I have a doubt about requirements for ILR, please correct me if i'm wrong, thank you!

Too my knowledge, first step, we get Tier 1 visa for three years, then after 3 years, if we still score enough points, we can extend our visa for another 2 years, then after 5 years, we can apply for ILR, right?

Would someone tell me the requriements for ILR? Especially the time requirement, how many days should we stay in UK during the five year period, in order to succeed in ILR?

Please note that as per the proposed changes to the immigration system, UKBA is proposing to increase the time limit for ILR to 8 years. The new proposed rules if approved by the parliament would come in force sometimes in later part of 2009. Go through the link below for more details,
