How long have you lived in the UK? PBS Dependant Visa question

Hi,

I'm filing PBS Dependant visa for my spouse and son to switch their visa to my current sponsor's visa (and hence, technically not an extension as my employer/sponsor has changed but visa category remains unchanged). I am currently on Tier 2 (General), i.e. Skilled Worker Visa.

There's a question in PBS Dependant visa form: How long have you lived in the UK?

My wife entered the UK on a Tier 2 Dependant visa in October 2018 but had been absent from the UK from December 2018 to May 2019 and also from December 2019 to March 2021 mostly owing to maternity and COVID-related travel restrictions.

So, whilst she first entered the UK 2 years and 6 months ago, she had been outside the UK for about 20 months out of this period, so technically has stayed only for 10 months in the UK on her current Dependant visa.

What should be the answer to this question? Should it be 2 years and 6 months or only 10 months, i.e. elapsed time between date first entered on current visa and today's date MINUS all her absences from the UK.

Also, there's a weird question my son's dependant visa (and wasn't there on my spouse's dependant visa questionnaire):

Select why you were in the UK:

Tourism (including visiting family and friends)
Work
Study
Transit (travelling through the country)
Other reason

Do I say Work (for my dependant son) even though he is just a toddler? As that's the only option that suits as a response. Alternatively, I can select Other reason and provide an explanation.
