I mean, this has nothing to do with Ireland or the Irish government: at the end of the day human beings wish for their interactions with a bureaucracy, be it public or private, to be efficient. And I think it's quite reasonable for those same human beings to be annoyed when said bureaucracy isn't being efficient, or worse is being extremely inefficient with little communication and guidance. To say it's not reasonable is to deny fundamental human emotion.
To that end, I think it's pretty odd for some people in this thread to insinuate that those who are frustrated at the FBR office for halting all processing for 4+ months shouldn't be upset or annoyed. After all, COVID-19 has existed for well over a year now and plenty of other bureaucracies, public and private, have discovered ways to function. Nobody is even asking the FBR office to function at full capacity, but this ostensible halt to all processing is what humans fear the most of a bureaucracy: being lost in an abyss of inefficient administration with little hope of a resolution anytime soon.
And these frustrations don't even take into account that processing was already bordering on almost a year even prior to COVID-19.
It is not a contradiction for us all to be grateful to Ireland for having very generous nationality laws regarding citizenship by descent, while simultaneously being frustrated at the delayed processing. It is literally one of the most unifying and human experiences of all to have a frustrating interaction with an inefficient bureaucracy. I'd even venture to say that every human on earth has at some point experienced that.
Moving back to the specific topic, it appears that the Irish government is still figuring out what is and isnt going to be allowed so unfortunately it's all speculation as to when the FBR will resume processing. It looks like unfortunately we're all going to be waiting for a bit longer for guidance.
