that is a nightmare! sorry to hear this.
I appreciate your empathy, but this is not a nightmare. I think you are being a bit extreme here.
8 weeks is not out of ordinary, and definitely not the longest I have had to wait for an answer from the Home Office (for both my EEA RC and my Pre-Settled status I waited for months).
when does your current Card expire?
My card expires in 2023. I did not wait for my card to expire to start the process of replacing my card; I applied as soon as I got Settled Status. This might have an impact on how long I wait, since I understand priority might be given to card already expired/about to expire. I'm OK with that.
did you try to contact them? if yes-did you get a reply from them?
Knowing there is a shortage of people working on this, and a surplus of last-time applications, contacting them for a non-urgent case is only going to create more work and more delay to everyone, specially all they can tell is only a caned answer. No, I have not contacted them nor I intend to.
My timeline it is in line with past reported timelines. Again, given there is a bottleneck, I do not consider there is any particular issue here.
My posts express what I believe are the facts, based on the best of my knowledge, about the topics discussed in this forum. They do not constitute immigration advice.
