ilr stamp to brp

Post by sph » Sat Aug 07, 2021 1:00 pm

I have only just found out about the new rules that passport stamp ILRs (in an expired passport) need to be converted to a current BRP. Does anyone know if
1. If I apply for a new BRP, would I be able to work in the mean time
2. Could I apply for citizenship (given everything else is ok with the application) with the passport stamp ILR?

You can apply for citizenship with the ilr you have, if you meet all the requirements for citizenship. No need to apply for a brp first.

You have posted today that you have already applied and been approved for citizenship???

Do you know about working while the brp application goes through?
The current ILR is on an expired passport and new rules state that it needs to be on the BRP to work.

If in a current job, then shouldn't be any issues.

If a new job, likely an issue.

BRP applications can take up 6 months.

As @CR001 said there is no issue with an existing job but If it is a new job and while you are waiting for the BRP your prospective employer can check your right to work by using the Employer Checking Service. They should get a positive verification notice within a few days of making the request confirming your right to work.
