British Nationality application and absenses in last 12 months

Post by Shoaib_msd » Fri Sep 03, 2021 10:55 pm

Hi All,

I have a question in regards to absenes in last 12 months before applying for British citizenship. I am aware that 90 days of absense is allowed in last 12 months but not sure how last 12 months are calculated.

If i apply on 15/09/2021 then will my last 12 months be counted from 15/09/2020 or home office counts full months like 01/09/2020 to 01/09/2021?

I am asking this because if i apply today 03/09/2021 then in last 12 months ie 03/09/2020 my absenses are over 100 days so want to wait for another 12 days to bring the days below 90.

Please advise. Thanks

It's 12 months counting backwards from the date your submit and pay online. It is not calendar months if you apply part way through a month

According to HO naturalisation guides they normally apply discretion for absences in the last 12 months less or equal to 100.

Thanks both for your replies.

One more query please. I am aware that i need to be present in UK 3 years prior to my citizenship application as i am spouse of british citizen. I fulfill this requirement.

However not sure if this applies to the last 12 month as well. As i will be applying on 15/09/2021, do i need to be present in UK on 15/09/2020 also. I was not in UK on 15/09/2020.

Please advise. Thanks

There is NO requirement to be present 12 month before the date of application.
