My Timeline for reference:
========================
# Online Application-----------: 8th July 2021
# Documents Received--------: 26th July 2021
# Estimated Issue Date--------: 28th September 2021

Spoke to the webchat yesterday and although my issue date is today the documents have only just been scanned. Anyone know how long it goes from scanning to printing ?

Hopefully with the offices opening in October things might speed up, but 8 weeks / 40 days for a first time passport online doesn't seem to be accurate for most of us
Thursday would mark exactly 8 weeks my documents were received and the my resent correspondence with the web-chat service tells me mine could be ages before its even looked at. I applied via passport express and i was told paper applications aren't even looked at this moment. Please can you send a link were u read about offices reopening in october?

Astonished by the incompetence of that office. Chatted in about something and got told 2 different things in the space of a month. I'd better get ready to wait 4 months...

And to my great amazement it changed to printing this afternoon !

Hi Everyone,
Posting here as the admin seem to think that this query is covered it certainly is not clear and I believe does warrant it own post! Hope this does not get censored two.
I have been reading the poste about weather the first time application can be made with a Certified Passport Copy some post suggest that it's possible and some say that the passport office in some cases has requested the original one and reset the clock of the application.
Has anyone made an an application with a Certified Passport copy (certified by a Solicitor) fairly recently and had his passport printed ? Similarly has anyone been denied the Certified Passport Copy and had to send the original subsequently. It would be good to have that clarified for new applicant as the original passport document is now tied for 3 months with the passport office.
Many Thanks

Hi,

I had the same questions when I applied as I couldn’t afford to give up my original passport for 2-3months. I’m an Australian living in Sweden.

So I ended up using a certified copy of my passport, getting it certified by the Swedish police.

I applied in mid July and they received my documents 23rd July. Yesterday the 27th Sep the tracking changed to printing, then later on to dispatched for my passport.

Based on this, I think it is possible to use a certified copy of your passport, but it could very much depend on the person reviewing your application. As I had webchatted with 3 different people and 2 said I needed an original passport and 1 said it should be no problems with a certified copy.

I can give an update on when I actually have my Irish passport. But it does seem possible to use a certified copy. Although I was nervous I would of had to of submitted my original and then wait the 40 days again.
I think we mentioned at least half a dozen times now on the forum that certified copies are accepted. Many people had done it in the past few years. I would suggest adding a cover letter explaining why you are not submitting the originals though.

Certain support staff may not be aware of it as they would just go by the book, which is alright, but it has been the same practice since a very long time ago.

Of course there is a chance that it would be rejected, since it's technically not in the official rules, but I can't see them enforcing this especially when their backlog is already enormous.

Received my supporting documents today as I requested for it in the webchat. Looks like Once the documents are scanned , you can request for the supporting documents if you have genuine reason. It won't impact your passport application.

It's all luck. Some guys get it quickly after assigned to a checker. Some take more than a week after assigning to checker.Either ways ur happy day is not too far

Documents Received : 27-July-2021
Estimated Issue date : 01-Oct-2021
Status tracker : Processing ( 48 Working days completed already)

Contacted Webchat . Got Typical Response. Waiting to be assigned to checker. Same status for last 10 days. Not sure why they have the webchat. They can introduce a new status "Waiting for check" in the tracker instead of wasting our time in the webchat queue and bunch of useless webchat representatives who gives useless template responses always.

After long wait of 48 working days, Got an email I need to submit my Original Birth Certificate again as I have submitted the copy of my Birth Certificate since my Certificate was laminated. :-( Same was accepted for my naturalization

Online Application : 23/07/2021
Documents received : 29/07/2021
Estimated Date : 01-OCT-2010

Additional Documents requested: 02-OCT-2010

They have planned and sent the email on Saturday afternoon 1.30 PM exactly after the Post office closure time.
Now I am planning to send the laminated Birth Certificate itself with Birth affidavit attested by lawyer. Now the turnaround time will reset and again I have to wait 40 working days. And if they find mistake they will coimmunicate after 40 working days. How it sounds crazy isn't it? Looks like I have to take legal route as someone suggested earlier.

The passport site says that they don't accept laminated certificates. Check the bottom of this page. https://www.dfa.ie/passports/documentary-requirements/ .

However, they don't say if they accept laminated certificate with affidavit. If they have not said anything about affidavit then it can be at the discretion of the officer who is handling the case . But yes, there has been cases where a document has been accepted for naturalization but same document not accepted for passport.

Yes Sir. I pointed the same and checked with webchat. They did say they won't accept but i can submit the birth affidavit form explaining the reason . Then it will be upto the entitlement officer to decide.
And couple of my friends have received their passport just submitting the laminated original birth certificates. And if you check in other thread there are members who sent laminated certs and got their passport As you rightly said its upto the entitlement officer. Thanks

So today is working day 45 from date documentation was officially received in the office or week 9, what ever way you want to look at it. Still no passport, chatted to online web chat, still waiting for a entitlement officer to look at application for approval. No commitment when it will be looked at, just advised not to book flights from the webchat. I did it online cause was told those applications are faster but I’ve been left in bureaucratic limbo. Has anyone any luck getting their passport?

Hello. Same boat as you. I applied using passport express and it took 2months and 2 days for my status to change from “ application received “ to processing application. Webchat say they don’t know if my documents are scanned even. So don’t know when anything will happen

This is my 8th week since they received the supporting documentation and the status changed to "Processing application". I'll contact the webchat and ask for an update next week.

46 working days since my documents were received.
Passport tracker has shown "Processing application" since documents were received back on 10 August 2021.
Estimated issue date has been 14/10/2021 since 10 August ........with 2 days to go it's not looking likely it will be issued then!
Second application - first application timed out after 6 months during lockdown earlier this year - still waiting for refund

Estimated issue date 12 October
Says 'your application is being processed' on online status.
Talked to we chat they say. Is being scammed and with a verifier for verification.

In my case - 50 working days, or 10 weeks have passed already and my application is still at the "processing" stage.

I wonder if contacting the web chat helps at all, or there's no point to bother with them? Is there anything else I could do in case of major delays, or I'm entirely at their mercy?

In the exact same time line as you, day 49 or 10 working weeks. Web chat all but useless, only ever managed to find out that documents were scanned and waiting a checker. That was told to me at week 8, two weeks later and various web chats and nothing. Its really starting to take the piss now.

Did they ask for any extra documentation or it was just backlog delay ?
