WAB / IRP Card Stamp 4 Confusion

Post by imfrom51 » Tue Oct 05, 2021 10:12 am

Hey Everyone.

Hoping someone can help sort this out for me :D

I am a UK Citizen and wife is US Citizen.
Living in Ireland for 6 years.
Wife applied for Citizenship in sept 2020 (nothing back yet)

2 weeks ago my wife renewed her IRP card (stamp 4EU Fam) which is now has a expiration of 2022.
  • Should we have renewed this as an WAB?
  • Should she apply for a WAB card now before the end of the year?
The online application form says that you can only renew 30 days before the expiration date so it's a little confusing.

Please feel free to ask any questions.

Thanks

Does it still say Stamp 4 EUFAM? If so, drop an email to EU treaty email and ask them to clarify whether it’s correct. It’s likely that the officer who processed the online application selected the wrong stamp number.

Yeah. It does say stamp 4 which is what we applied for (cause we didn't see / know about the WAB).

Thanks

If it says Stamp 4, then that’s correct. If it says 4EUFAM, that’s wrong.

I wouldn't worry too much just yet. In case you have any travel plans for Christmas, your wife is a US citizen so she can travel to all EU countries without a visa anyway.

All 4EUFAM cards (for UK citizens' family members) are valid till 31 December 2021, and applicants can use the online system up until that day. All current permissions come with a further auto-extension to 15 January 2022. So there's nothing to worry about for the next 3 months.

I'd just send an email to both eutreatyrights@justice.ie and immigrationsupport@justice.ie to ask them to clarify whether this is a mistake now, and wait for their response before taking the next action. (Remember to put all of your details in the email, including but not limited to name, DOB, address, IRP number, passport number, spouse name, spouse passport number etc, so that they can answer your question right away without having to go through further back-and-forth.)

If they don't come back with any satisfactory answers before 15 December 2021, put in a new online application.

Brilliant. Sounds like a plan. I have the form already to submit so we'll see what happens. I'll post an update in case anyone else is dumb like me. Hahahah

Thanks for your help.
