Hi all,
My wife carries ILR and is eligible for citizenship. We had her passport changed to suit her real middle name as all through her FLR(M)'s her passport had her just her middle name initial. As she is applying for citizenship we wanted her full middle name so we changed her passport. According to the rules we have three months to apply for a new BRP or apply for citizenship (essentially).
We're travelling to USA next year for a wedding in October and timelines were not going to be a problem. However, we have now been informed the bride has set a date in May 2022. This was brought to our attention the day after my wife submitted her passport change. This could be an issue.
On the citizenship timeline people have been getting their citizenship in four months, someone even had it in three months this week. They seem to be super quick.
If we were to apply now we could potentially get approval in March. This would be the worst because we have three months to have the ceremony which could be April and then my wife will have to apply for a passport which won't come in time meaning she can't travel. If we get the last available date for the ceremony we could not be back in time. We could wait a month before applying but then we could be the 'lucky' ones and get it even faster leaving us in the same situation.
I'm just asking for people's advice. Would you wait? She got her new passport this week. Or can you travel with a naturalisation certificate on a US passport?
