28 DAY RULE

Post by cha_cha1 » Sat Oct 25, 2008 5:18 pm

I HEARD THAT WHEN YOU GET A VISA FROM PAKISTAN YOU MUST LEAVE THE COUNTRY WITH 28 DAYS. IS THIS TRUE?

WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU STAY OVER THE 28 DAYS. IS THERE A FINE OR SOMETHING YOU MUST PAY AND IF SO HOW MUCH

Entering within 28 days may be significant to subsequent settlement applications. See also 1.3 - Validity of entry clearance and leave to enter and 1.8 - What happens on arrival in the UK?

Hello,

it is recommended you enter within 28 days (as mentioned by Vinny).

Is there any reason you may need to enter the UK late? My partner entered the UK 2 months after his visa was issued due to a death in his close family. He was advised to carry a copy of the death certificate in case of enquiry at this end (UK).

We seeked advice from both offices in the UK and Pakistan as the circumstances were not exactly the 'norm'.

However, if you have a spouse visa that was endorsed for 27 months, then you would have a longer grace period to initially enter the UK.

Subject to the laws in place at the time, spouses may apply for settlement (288) no sooner than 28 days (4 weeks) prior to the second anniversary of their initial entry into the UK and before their spouse visa expires.

Do read the requirements of form SET(M) and any subsequent updates as soon as possible.
