Birth registration for my son

Post by M-N » Fri Nov 19, 2021 8:43 pm

Dear all

I want to register my son who was born abroad in the UK. The information about my case is as below:

1. I hold both Vietnamese nationality and British nationality. When I registered my marriage with the Vietnamese local authority, I used my Vietnamese nationality.

2. When I registered my son's birth at the Vietnamese local authority, they required me to use my Vietnamese nationality to be consistent with my marriage certificate.

So, if I register my son in the UK, will this be an issue? I am thinking about submitting with the application both my British and Vietnamese passports and writing a letter to explain the whole situation. Are there any issues that I should be aware of?

Thank you so much for your help.

How did you acquire British citizenship? And if you were naturalised, was the child born before or after the date on your naturalisation certificate?

I was naturalised in 2019 and my son was born after the date in my naturalisation certificate. He was born this year. Thank you very much.

Then he's automatically British.

As he's British, apply online for a British passport. No need to register.

Dear all
I am applying for my son’s passport. I need to include in the application his Vietnamese passport. Since all the information in this document is written in both Vietnamese and English, do I need to get it translated? Thank you very much.

If the Vietnamese passport shows everything in English as well there shouldn't be a need for translations. Most passports these days are at least bi-lingual.
